Trump Just Got Fact-Checked So Hard He Had No Choice But To Waddle Away As Fast As He Could

Paula Reid, a reporter for CBS, challenged President Trump on Monday over claims he made about his policy of separating migrant children from their parents at the Mexican border. Trump claimed on Twitter that his policy is the same one that President Obama had during his time in office. But that’s not true, and Reid called him out on his bullsh*t, right to his face.

Trump stated, “Obama had a separation policy. We all had the same policy,” but Reid quickly replied, “You did not have it, sir. No, you didn’t.”

Trump continued, “I tried to do it differently, but Obama had a separation policy, but people don’t like to talk about it,” to which Reid responded, “Sir, it was different, you decided to prosecute everyone at the border.”

Trump’s separation policy was indeed different. Unlike Obama’s policy, under Trump’s “Zero Tolerance” policy, all adults with children who came in illegally were prosecuted. Since people’s kids couldn’t go to jail with them, they were put in detention centers, essentially cages with concrete floors.

60 Minutes reported this past weekend that Trump’s policy affected more children than was originally thought, closer to 5,000 than to the 2,600 the administration claimed.  It also began nine months earlier than the administration acknowledged.

Trump, of course, called 60 Minutes’ report “fake news” on Twitter. He also tweeted the lie that his policy was the same as Obama’s.

People were glad to see Trump get fact-checked in real time, and took to Twitter to compliment Reid.

How great would it be if all reporters called Trump out on his lies?
